Conroe ISD approves districtwide ban on student cellphone use during school day
Conroe ISD’s board of trustees unanimously approved updated district cellphone policies at its regular meeting June 17. The approval means students’ personal communication devices, such as cellphones and smartwatches, must stay turned off and put away during the school day.

Conroe ISD moves forward with attendance boundary process for new elementary schools
The Conroe ISD board of trustees approved attendance zones for Eissler Elementary School and Mittie J. Campbell Elementary School, which opened in August, at the Jan. 23 meeting. Construction for both schools is funded through the $1.9 billion 2023 school bond approved by voters.

Insomnia Cookies to open on College Park Drive

According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Insomnia Cookies has plans to open a new location in College Park Drive in The Woodlands area.

The details: The project to finish 1,214 square feet of interior space for the location began Nov. 21 and is slated to complete Jan. 16, according to the filing. Insomnia Cookies offers in-store and delivery services.

Founded in 2006, Insomnia Cookies has over 300 locations and offers delivery nationwide, per the website.

On the menu: Menu items offered include cookies, ice cream, and cookie sandwiches. Flavors range from snickerdoodle and chocolate chunk to oatmeal raisin as well as vegan options.

Here are the 5 most-read restaurant opening announcements shared by Community Impact in The Woodlands area in 2025.

Local Public Eatery: The restaurant opened a new location at Market Street in The Woodlands, marking the concept’s first Houston location and second Texas location.

The 5,140-square-foot space features curated artwork, vintage lighting and cozy area rugs, according to the release. The space also offers a screen at the bar for sports and a wrap-around patio with a retractable roof, intimate dining spaces and a central deck bar.

FIFA World Cup 2026 sees record-breaking ticket demand with over 150M requests

FIFA World Cup 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most in-demand sporting events in the tournament's history, with over 150 million tickets requested during the Random Selection Draw ticketing phase to date. The figure represents the highest demand in FIFA World Cup history, according to a Dec. 29 news release.

Current situation: The final Random Selection Draw ticketing phase opened Dec. 11, a process that allows first-time fans to apply for single-match tickets based on who is playing whom, where and when for group stage matches.

As of Dec. 29, the draw has already garnered over 150 million ticket requests by fans from over 200 countries, bringing the FIFA World Cup 2026 oversubscribed over 30 times based on verified credit card numbers submitted with each ticket application, per the release.

Get involved: The Random Selection Draw will remain open until Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. Officials noted that the timing of a ticket request does not affect the chances of success.

The overview: As Community Impact enters its third decade, it’s returning to its roots of growth and deeper reader connections. The “Patron” program, which began in 2020 by reader demand, has relaunched as InCIder.

“This relaunch represents our renewed commitment to readers who support our local news,” CEO John Garrett said. “Beyond funding great journalism, we also want to reward our InCIders and build deeper connections with them, creating a true sense of community around the work we do.”

Event details: As part of the new program, Community Impact is hosting InCIder Hours across the state, events designed to celebrate and engage the company’s top supporters.

Houston’s first InCIder Hour will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Jan. 21 at Community Impact’s Houston headquarters, 16300 Northwest Freeway, Jersey Village.

Guests will have the opportunity to network with fellow InCIders, meet Community Impact staff and attend a moderated real estate-focused panel.
