Stay in the know with five of the most-read Bastrop restaurant updates so far this summer, including boba, burgers and steaks.
1. PrimeBite (opened July 2, ribbon-cutting Aug. 12): Daniel and Adelita Sanchez are serving Mexican-inspired smash burgers and comfort food at the Chestnut Grove Food Truck Court.
2. Whataburger (reopens in December): Bastrop’s Whataburger was demolished in July to make way for a new $2.5 million, 3,800-square-foot restaurant.
3. Kung Fu Tea (opens this fall): Franchise owner Stephen Thomas will offer freshly brewed, customizable milk and fruit teas, as well as the brand’s signature Wow Bubbles—a brown sugar-cooked version of regular boba, which is usually marinated in honey. Other choices will include freshly squeezed lemonades and slushes, with vegan, dairy-free and nut-free options.
4. Texas Roadhouse (opened July 27): The steakhouse opened at Sendero in late July, serving steaks, seafood, chicken, scratch-made sides and signature rolls.
5. McDonald’s (ribbon-cutting Aug. 27): Bastrop's second McDonald's restaurant carries an estimated $1.5 million construction price tag.
