8.75-acre indoor, outdoor sports complex underway in Cedar Creek

A sports complex taking shape in Cedar Creek aims to add year-round space for Bastrop County athletes, recreational players and families when it opens in early 2027.

What to expect: Located near SH 21 and Mount Olive Road, Pitchside will feature 26,000 square feet of indoor turf for soccer and football.

The 8.75-acre facility will also include outdoor multiuse fields with camps, leagues for adults and youth, tournaments and open-field rentals planned, according to the business’s website.

Officials said on Instagram that community programming will also be offered, including family game days.

One more thing: Pitchside said the facility will serve as the future home of FC Bastrop, a local youth soccer organization.

Good Old Habit brings vintage fashion to downtown Bastrop

Cody and Reva Atkins are now offering vintage and secondhand clothing and more at their brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Bastrop.

What they offer: In addition to a curated selection of vintage and secondhand clothing and accessories, Good Old Habit offers jewelry, home goods and other unique finds.

Styles range from Victorian-era pieces to Y2K fashion, according to Discover Bastrop.

Notable quote: “Every item in this shop has a past life, and we love watching them find their next one with you,” the owners said in a July 10 Instagram post. “Come stop in, take your time, and see what one-of-a-kind piece is waiting to find you.”

'The Golden Girls' Kitchen is popping up downtown next month

From Atlanta to Austin, Disney Entertainment and Bucket Listers are opening a pop-up cafe in downtown as part of a national tour, all centered around “The Golden Girls.”

The pop-up is set to house scenes and photo opportunities, including the kitchen and Blanche’s Boudoir. The pop-up restaurant will serve up breakfast, lunch, desserts and drinks with nods to the show’s characters and storylines—it launches on Aug. 20. 

Learn more: Visitors will need tickets to access “The Golden Girls” Kitchen, which will include a reserved seat, mocktail or cocktail, an entree and slice of cheesecake.

What they offer: Guests can dine for breakfast and lunch, choosing from menu items like the “picture it” pancakes prepared with warm bourbon maple syrup, berries and whipped butter.

One more thing: There is currently no ending date for the pop-up, according to a representative with “The Golden Girls” Kitchen. In the past, the pop-up has stayed in each city for several months.

Austin leaders eye water conservation measures for major projects as data center growth raises resource concerns

Austin leaders are seeking to mandate long-range water use and conservation plans from facilities that use large amounts of water, like data centers.

The details: The proposal comes as City Council is expected to consider several new regulations this summer that could restrict or ban hyperscale data center development in Austin.

Quote of note: “The overall message is that Austin is looking very carefully at water usage, and if you want to use a lot of water you’ll not only have to pay your fair share for water and infrastructure, but you also have to conserve as much as possible," said council member Mike Siegel.

Zooming in: Siegel's resolution, approved July 23, would impose new water planning processes for large-volume water users. It also kicks off new public reporting on usage by Austin Water's largest customers. 

More city policies related to land use, noise regulations and Austin Energy will be considered by council in the near future.
