Boil water notice lifted in Willis after water main break

On Sept. 30, a water main break in the city of Willis caused a major decrease in water pressure citywide and prompted a boil water notice. The situation led Willis ISD students and staff to bring their own water bottles and sanitization methods to school.

Latest update: The city of Willis restored water service to the Roark, Cannan, Hardy, Parmley, Lynn Lucas and Stubblefield campuses.

According to Sarah Blakelock, the district's chief communications officer, water service was expected to be restored to the remaining campuses very soon. Mayor William Brown announced that state requirements required the water to be tested before the boil water notice could be lifted.

The city submitted water samples to its labs and received the results on Oct. 2, which led to the boil water notice being lifted.

"All water samples have been tested, and the results came back negative," Brown said in a social media post.

The history: Founded in 1976, the group works to expand, improve and protect parks and green space in the Houston region by building, renovating and managing projects. Over the past 50 years, the board has invested about $500 million in parks and green space using public, philanthropic and corporate funding.

The parks board typically works on about 50 projects at any given time, including more than 170 miles of connected trails. Moving forward, Schultz said the board has three main priorities:

  • Adding 50 miles of trail to the existing network

  • Investing in Houston's about 180 neighborhood parks

  • Building the Hill at Sims and MacGregor parks
