Fulshear annexes Eagle Landing Park into city limits

Eagle Landing Park will officially be located within Fulshear’s city limits after City Council unanimously voted to annex the newly opened 25-acre park at a Jan. 6 meeting.

What residents need to know: The city-owned facility, which was previously in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction and not zoned, will now be classified into the semi-urban residential district, according to agenda documents.

Remember this: The $5.2 million park, located at 4131 Woods Road, opened Nov. 15 and features a variety of amenities, including:

  • Soccer fields
  • A concession area with a pavilion
  • A playground
  • Walking trails

What else: The park will also be home to a youth soccer league, hosted by nonprofit HTX Soccer, which will have priority scheduling of the fields

What’s next: City officials will bring zoning specifics to the Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 9, with the item slated to return to council Jan. 20, Fulshear Planning Director Josh Brothers said.

Latin Bites now serving South American, Peruvian flavors in Katy

Latin Bites has opened a second location in Katy, joining the restaurant’s original Houston location at 5709 Woodway Drive, Ste. B.

What they offer: The South American and Peruvian eatery will offer a limited soft opening menu featuring golden fettuccine, surf and turf, fried rice and chicken cilantro rice, according to its website. Several ceviche options are also available.

The menu also features several dessert options including tres leches and churros, alongside several drink options such as chilcano and assorted juices.

United Airlines now offering route to Tepic, Mexico, out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport

United Airlines launched its first nonstop service route from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Tepic, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, on Dec. 20, according to a Dec. 22 news release.

The details: With the addition of the route, IAH will now serve as the sole U.S. destination out of the Tepic International Airport, according to the news release. The new route operates once a week on Saturdays, with seasonal service available from mid-December to mid-August. It provides direct access to the Riviera Nayarit region, according to the news release. With the addition of Tepic, United now serves 24 destinations in Mexico and 52 destinations across Latin America from IAH, the news release states.

Also of note: At William P. Hobby Airport, travelers moving through the Central Concourse now have a new sit-down dining option with the December opening of the Yard House, according to a Dec. 22 news release.

Charter school system launches online high school courses for students statewide

Texas charter system Harmony Public Schools launched a new virtual learning platform on Jan. 5 that allows students across the state to take high school courses online.

The overview: The Harmony Online Learning program includes dozens of courses aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards, all of which are self-paced, according to a news release.

More details: Students can choose from dozens of courses in core subjects, electives, Advanced Placement and Career and Technical Education, according to the program’s website. The offerings aim to help students complete credit recovery, get ahead with their requirements and access courses not available at their home campus. Credit earned through Harmony may be applied toward high school graduation requirements depending on local district policies, per the release.

One more thing: Interested families can enroll online, and spring courses begin Jan. 12, per the release. The cost of tuition per course is $325, a spokesperson from Harmony Public Schools told Community Impact.

The overview: As Community Impact enters its third decade, it’s returning to its roots of growth and deeper reader connections. The “Patron” program, which began in 2020 by reader demand, has relaunched as InCIder.

Event details: As part of the new program, Community Impact is hosting InCIder Hours across the state, events designed to celebrate and engage the company’s top supporters.

Houston’s first InCIder Hour will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Jan. 21 at Community Impact’s Houston headquarters, 16300 Northwest Freeway, Jersey Village.

Guests will have the opportunity to network with fellow InCIders, meet Community Impact staff and attend a moderated real estate-focused panel.
