Winter Storm Fern blankets Boerne in ice, Boerne ISD schools to close Jan. 26

Over the night of Jan. 24, Winter Storm Fern brought a layer of ice to Boerne and surrounding areas. Due to ice accumulation, Boerne ISD has cancelled school and extracurricular activities for Jan. 26.

The details: While the winter storm dropped temperatures and coated the city in ice, Boerne's infrastructure withstood the weather.
According to a Jan. 25 Facebook announcement, Boerne utilities have not had any significant issues or reported power outages. Roads in Fair Oaks Ranch are also reported by Police Chief Todd Smith to be deteriorated and potentially unsafe for drivers.

A closer look: BISD district officials said they will continue to monitor conditions in coordination with the National Weather Service and local emergency management officials, and post updates to the district website, social media platforms and BoerneISD.net.

Alamo Colleges District cancels Jan. 26 classes

All Alamo Colleges will be closed Jan. 26 due to inclement weather, according to an announcement on the Alamo Colleges District website.

All classes, events and services will be closed.

Some details: Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe and Caldwell counties are under an extreme cold warning until Jan. 26 at noon, according to the National Weather Service, or NWS. Dangerously cold wind chills, as low as 5 degrees below zero, could result in hypothermia or frostbite, according to NWS.

Officials with the Alamo Colleges District will continue to monitor the weather conditions in coordination with NWS. Any urgent updates will be shared through the Alamo Alert emergency notification system, according to a Facebook post from the district.
