Denton officials pass development code updates for data centers

Denton City Council members unanimously voted Oct. 13 to adopt development code amendments related to data center zoning restrictions, their proximity to homes and required environmental protections.

The details: The Denton Development Code updates are intended to prevent facilities from impacting neighboring homes and businesses, keep land use standards up to date with current data center trends, protect water supplies and prevent surface water and groundwater contamination, Assistant Planning Director Angie Glass said at the meeting.

They also act as a stopgap while the city considers a moratorium, a temporary pause on accepting and processing new applications.

The city rejected a new data center application in early October because it did not meet all of the city’s initial submission requirements, Glass said. City Attorney Mack Reinwand said parts of that application could potentially be reviewed under the prior standards.

Teriyaki Madness now offering drone delivery in Denton

Teriyaki Madness, a fast-casual Asian bowl restaurant, teamed up with Zipline, an autonomous delivery service, to deliver meals to its Denton customers via drones, according to a press release from the restaurant’s management.

How it works: As of Oct. 15, customers can place their Teriyaki bowl order using the Zipline app. The company’s drones will pick up the food from the restaurant and fly it to the customer’s location in under five minutes, avoiding longer traffic-burdened delivery times, according to the release.

Upon arrival, the drone can hover up to 300 feet in the air as the food is lowered on a tether.

Teriyaki Madness offers customizable protein bowls, served over rice or noodles, according to its website.
