Conroe ISD approves balanced budget for FY 2025-26
Conroe ISD has approved a balanced budget for fiscal year 2025-26, including a tax rate that will remain the same as FY 2024-25, according to discussion at the Aug. 19 meeting.
How we got here: CISD Chief Financial Officer Karen Garza presented the tax rate and proposed FY 2025-26 budget at the Aug. 5 meeting, as previously reported.
By the numbers: The FY 2025-26 budget includes $761.05 million in both projected estimated revenues and expenditures. The proposed tax rate of $0.9496 per $100 valuation is the same as FY 2024-25.

The Learning Experience officials said the learning center opened a location in Magnolia on July 30. The Learning Experience has over 300 locations, per its website.
The details: According to its website, The Learning Experience offers care and educational programs for children from infants to preschool and kindergarten. The curriculum focuses on hands-on learning with activities designed to develop children intellectually, socially and cognitively.
YMCA to partner with Conroe ISD for after-school programs
The Woodlands Family YMCA will be expanding its afterschool program at school campuses in partnership with Conroe ISD, according to an Aug. 12 news release from the YMCA.
The gist: The YMCA will open a site on the Conroe campuses in phases, according to the news release. Care is provided from school dismissal to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The program is currently operating at the following schools:
Rice Elementary School
Giesinger Elementary School
Gordon Reed Elementary School
San Jacinto Elementary School
Stewart Elementary School
How to help: Each site must demonstrate viability with a minimum of 15 to 20 students expressing interest in order to proceed, according to the release.
Lone Star College appoints retired veteran to newly created position
Lone Star College System has appointed retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. David J. Yebra as its inaugural chief veterans officer, effective Sept. 1, according to a news release.
The gist: Yebra will lead system-wide efforts to support veteran and military-affiliated students at Lone Star College System, according to a news release. He will work with internal, community, military and industry partners to expand educational access, enhance veteran success and strengthen engagement across campuses, according to the news release.
Quote of note: “I’m honored to join Lone Star College System and continue my life’s work supporting those who have served our country,” Yebra said.
