What to know before heading to the polls in Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North and The Woodlands area

Early voting begins April 20 for the May 2 elections. In The Woodlands area, this includes races in Shenandoah and Oak Ridge North as well as for the seat representing Texas Senate District 4.

Shenandoah City Council: Residents will see Shenandoah council positions 1 and 5 on the ballot along with the race for mayor, according to the city of Shenandoah’s election website. Incumbent Ron Raymaker will not seek reelection for Position 1.

Oak Ridge North City Council: Residents will see Oak Ridge North City Council places 1 and 2 on the ballot, along with the race for mayor. City Council incumbents Rick Moffatt and Alex Jones are running uncontested, according to the city of Oak Ridge North’s election website.

Dates to know

  • April 20: first day of early voting

  • April 28: last day of early voting

  • May 2: election day

Tommy Bahama Home to close at Market Street in The Woodlands

The Tommy Bahama Home location at Market Street in The Woodlands will close in April, officials with Market Street said.

The location offers home furnishings, outdoor living designs and decorative accessories, according to its website.

What's next: A location for Aritzia is slated for the area where the Tommy Bahama Home store is located, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Conroe ISD set to review 2026-27 budget information, approve renovation-related items

At the April 21 regular board meeting, the Conroe ISD board of trustees is set to go over the budget information for the 2026-27 school year. Trustees will also approve construction managers for various school projects in the district and review Senate Bill 546's mandate for seat belts on buses.

The breakdown: According to meeting documents, CISD is set to discuss its general budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27. As previously reported, in August, trustees approved the FY 2025-26 budget, which was approximately $761.05 million. The approved tax rate also remained the same as the previous year in 2024.

Also on the agenda: CISD will also take the next steps to approve construction managers-at-risk for multiple renovation projects, which include, but are not limited to:

  • The Woodlands Ninth Grade and College Park High School
  • The Auxiliary Facility
  • Caney Creek High School
  • District safety and security upgrades project
  • Anderson and Glen Loch elementary schools

DATA: See which teachers, superintendents were paid the most across the Greater Houston area in 2025-26

In the 2025-26 school year, Cy-Fair and Klein ISDs had the highest-paid superintendents while Lamar CISD and New Caney ISD had the highest-paid teachers, on average, according to Texas Education Agency data released in mid-March.

The big picture: Community Impact analyzed data from the TEA to learn about compensation for superintendents, teachers and staff at public school districts for the 2025-26 school year.

According to the TEA data released March 16, the Greater Houston-area school districts with the highest-earning superintendents for the 2025-26 school year are:

  • Cy-Fair ISD Superintendent Wayne Killian with $520,231 in total pay
  • Klein ISD Superintendent Jenny McGown with $508,554 in total pay
  • Katy ISD Superintendent Kenneth Gregorski with $474,440 in total pay

A closer look: According to the TEA data released March 19, the Greater Houston-area school districts with the highest average teacher base pay for the 2025-26 school year are:
  • Lamar CISD with $76,225
  • New Caney ISD with $75,125
  • Deer Park ISD with $74,343
