Argyle ISD approves substitute teacher pay increase, hiring 5 additional aides

The Argyle ISD board of trustees approved a $10-per-day pay increase for substitute teachers and paraprofessionals at a Dec. 15 meeting. The board also approved hiring five special education aide positions to prepare for increased enrollment.

The details: Argyle ISD has experienced challenges in maintaining an adequate pool of substitute teachers and paraprofessionals to meet daily campus needs, per district documents.

The new pay rates are:

  • $135 per day for a registered nurse
  • $135 per day for long-term substitutes
  • $110 per day for Texas-certified teachers
  • $105 per day for substitute teachers with degrees
  • $100 per day for substitute teachers without degrees
  • $95 per day for paraprofessionals

What else: This will cost the district $70,000, and the funds will come from the maintenance and operations budget, per district documents.

District staff said the new pay rates will go into effect next semester.

Degree Wellness to offer cryotherapy, infrared sauna in Flower Mound

Degree Wellness plans to open a new location in Flower Mound in early 2026, according to a company representative.

What they offer: The wellness business’s offerings include full body cryotherapy, an infrared sauna, red light therapy and a cold plunge, according to its website. Degree Wellness also provides IV therapy and compression massages.

Before you go: The Flower Mound location is currently offering its founding memberships, which include a 25% discount on IV treatments and vitamin boosters, per its website.

Degree Wellness is expected to open in late February

Shark Tank-funded menswear store Collars & Co. now open in Southlake

The Dallas-Fort Worth region now has a Collars & Co. location at Southlake Town Square, which opened in late November.

The details: The menswear brand offers reimagined men’s shirts with its patent-pending Dress Collar Polo for athletes, celebrities and executives seeking all-day comfort and style, according to a news release.

Some background: Justin Baer, who founded Collars & Co. in 2021, appeared on Shark Tank to promote polos with a firm, dress-style collar in 2022.

The Southlake location is the sixth retail location for Collars & Co. and the first in Texas. Other locations are in Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland and California.
