Wayback Barn offers rustic retreat, 'old-fashioned fun' in McKinney

🪓 When guests drive up the tree-lined gravel road to Wayback Barn, visitors can spot a 100-year-old red barn on a four-acre property that also includes picnic tables and a variety of outdoor games nestled under Bois d’Ark trees.

The set up: A variety of experiences are available at Wayback Barn. A $6 entry fee gives guests access to outdoor games and tables. Outdoor games include cornhole, ping pong, tetherball, volleyball, football and more. Mini golf can be added for another $6 as well as axe throwing for another $15.

What else: Situated within the barn is Hayloft Bar & Grill, which serves mainly finger foods including a Texas-shaped charcuterie board, sandwiches, panko fried shrimp and more. The bar program offers a rotating whiskey selection, various cocktails, beer and wine.

“We’re primarily a gathering place that offers food versus a restaurant that offers a play area,” Laura O’Dowd said.

Trinity Presbyterian Church in McKinney celebrates 170 years

⛪️ Trinity Presbyterian Church, located on Virginia Parkway in McKinney, is celebrating its 170th anniversary in November.

The setup: The McKinney church was founded in 1855 by a group of Cumberland Presbyterians who moved from Tennessee, said Valerie Mowell, director of outreach and engagement for the church. Collin County’s population at the time was estimated to be less than 2,000 people.

The details: The church has congregated in three locations at different points during its history. Trinity Presbyterian moved to its third and current location in the 1990s, Mowell said. The church meets every Sunday morning for worship and supports local nonprofits such as Hugs Cafe Inc. and Emmanuel Labor.
