The city of Round Rock has several ongoing transportation projects happening throughout the city. Check out some of the latest updates on road construction.

Upcoming projects

Traffic signal at Chandler Creek and Kenney Fort Boulevards
Project:
A traffic signal and pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Chandler Creek and Kenney Fort Boulevards, utilizing the existing road configuration.
Update: The project is in the engineering and design phase.

  • Timeline: Design completion expected fall 2026

  • Cost: $156,445

  • Funding source: type B sales tax revenue

Ongoing projects

Wyoming Springs extension
Project:
The project includes a new four-lane divided roadway with shared use paths, extending over Brushy Creek from Creek Bend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard.
Update: Crews began placing traffic signal arms at the road’s intersections with Creek Bend Boulevard and Old Settlers Boulevard in April.

  • Timeline: completion scheduled for fall 2026

  • Cost: $29.7 million

  • Funding sources: type B sales tax revenue, certificate of obligation bonds, Williamson County contributions.

The Goddard School breaks ground on future Round Rock campus

A new early childhood education facility broke ground in Round Rock in April. 

About the business: The Goddard School provides childcare and early education for children ages six weeks to six years old. The new campus will include a multi-purpose room and multiple playgrounds. 

About the owner: This future location of The Goddard School is owned by Swetal Soni, Pinak Gohel, Vaishali Gohel and Rohan Munshi, who also own a Georgetown location of the early childhood education franchise.

Central Texas partnership streamlines blood distribution to large-scale incidents

Austin-Travis County EMS has partnered with We Are Blood to implement a blood distribution plan for mass casualty incidents. The plan strengthens the region’s ability to respond to large-scale emergencies and helps patients receive transfusions quickly.

At a glance: The Mass Casualty Incident Whole Blood Deployment Plan is intended to quicken emergency response in Central Texas by optimizing the deployment of blood units to major incidents, according to an ATCEMS news release.

The plan outlines four distinct steps in the coordination of whole blood deployment to mass casualty incidents in the region:

  • Activation: ATCEMS notifies We Are Blood of the mass casualty incident and the estimated amount of blood needed.
  • Rapid Staging: We Are Blood prepares units of blood and pre-packed supplies for transfusions.
  • Field Deployment: ATCEMS personnel get the units from the blood bank.
  • On-Scene Management: A dedicated blood officer oversees blood and equipment distribution at the scene.

From an elementary school replacement in Austin to a Home Depot in San Marcos, here are five of the most expensive projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in the Austin metro this week.

1. Andrews Elementary School modernization ($52 million): This project involves the complete removal and replacement of an existing elementary school. Construction will start this summer.

2. Willow East leasing office ($25 million): Construction on a leasing office for a new apartment complex in Austin will begin this summer.

3. Home Depot ($13 million): The new store in San Marcos will be 107,797 square feet with a 28,120-square-foot garden center.

4. Discount Tire ($2 million): Construction will begin next month on an 8,000-square-foot Discount Tire location in Georgetown. 

5. Layne's Chicken Fingers ($1.1 million): A new Layne's chicken fingers restaurant will be built in New Braunfels.

Potbelly Sandwich Works plans opening date in Hutto

Potbelly Sandwich Works plans to open its new location in Hutto at the end of this month.

The gist: The fast-casual restaurant, which will be located next to Hooky Entertainment, offers a variety of sub sandwiches, including prime rib steak, chicken salad, meatball and pork barbecue options.

While the restaurant will open this month, the business plans to host a grand opening event May 16, 10 a.m.-noon. The first 50 guests in line will receive free Potbelly for a year. Customers can expect a lively celebration with a Plinko game for opportunities to win exclusive Potbelly merchandise and prizes.

Potbelly in Hutto is owned and operated by franchise partners Jignesh Patel and Nitin Patel, who recently opened a Potbelly shop in nearby Georgetown.
