A nearly $47 million economic incentive agreement for an undisclosed development at The Square at Lakeway is up for discussion in Lakeway at the upcoming Jan. 14 Special City Council meeting.

The meeting will be held at Lakeway City Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Diving in deeper: The economic incentive is known as a Chapter 380 agreement, a tool cities can use to incentivize certain developers or tenants to build in a city to support economic growth, per agenda documents.

The developer, unspecified by city documents, is requesting $46.9 million in grants over a period of 35 years. The grants would be provided by rebates from the city to the developer in annual payments from property and sales taxes received from the project, according to city documents.

The background: At the Jan. 7 Zoning and Planning Commission meeting, commission officials approved a motion 6-1 to increase the amount of retail/commercial space at the development, alongside other updates, such as changing the name from "The Square at Lohmans" to "The Square at Lakeway."

When Aaron Creamer and his family relocated from England to the Austin area, they saw an opportunity in a dining scene that didn’t quite meet their needs.

“We noticed a gap in family-friendly restaurants that truly prioritize ingredient quality and thoughtful preparation,” Creamer said. 

This inspired Aaron and wife Sally to open Winston’s, a neighborhood restaurant that now offers a family-friendly dining experience at two locations.

A family affair: Winston’s was first established just outside of Lakeway in August 2023, which Creamer says is more of a “destination spot.” In December, the family expanded to a second location in Bee Cave, offering easier walkability and access to the Hill Country Galleria. 

What’s on the menu: Winston’s standout menu item is its wood-fire Neapolitan-style pizza made with imported Italian 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes and dough made fresh daily. Flavors include a classic margherita, prosciutto and arugula, or truffle with mozzarella and parmesan. 

Staying local: Winston’s also hosts community-focused gatherings such as wine tastings, hosting birthday parties, live music and storytime mornings.

With the new year beginning and resolutions underway, individuals may look into body contouring procedures to feel more confident in their bodies, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sanjay K. Sharma said. 

Affiliated with Ascension Medical Group, the University of Texas Dell Medical School and the University of Texas Medical Branch, Sharma said these procedures are common in the Austin area due to the community’s culture of being outdoors and trying to stay healthy. He spoke with Community Impact about how body contouring works, ideal candidates and tips for community members to know when looking for a provider. 

What is body contouring?
Body contouring is a broad-based category in plastic surgery. Any part of the body can be contoured. It can be from areas that are sort of stubborn fat deposits. Patients sometimes want to know how they can get rid of isolated pockets around the abdomen, legs, thighs or arms.

Hundreds of Texas private schools have been approved to participate in the state’s new education savings account program, per a map released by the state comptroller in early January.

The overview: As of press time, 775 private schools and prekindergarten providers had been approved to accept education savings accounts, or ESAs. There are over 1,300 accredited private schools in the state, according to the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission. 

Of the approved schools, there are:

• 233 schools in the Houston area
• 195 schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
• 94 schools in the San Antonio area
• 70 schools in the Austin area
