Swish Dental has plans to expand with a new location in Spring on Sept. 14, per the business website.

The details: To celebrate the opening, new patients can get a free Boost Whitening kit or Swish swag bag after their first exam and cleaning, according to the website. With over 20 locations in Austin, Houston and San Antonio, Swish Dental is operated by founder Dr. Viraj Desai.

What they offer: According to the business website, Swish Dental offers restorative dentistry, teeth whitening services, invisalign, tooth extractions and emergency dental services.

As previously reported by Community Impact, Dominique Dawes Academy offers a variety of programs geared towards varying ages and experience levels, including recreational gymnastics, junior gymnastics and competitive gymnastics.

EōSFitness to open in Grand Parkway Center
EōS Fitness officials said the fitness center has plans to expand with a new 40,000-square-foot location in the Grand Parkway Center.

Located between the intersection of the Grand Parkway and SH 249, per officials the new EōS Fitness center plans to open in 2027.

The Harris County Commissioners Court denied a recommendation for County Treasurer Carla Wyatt to receive a 30% raise. As a result, Wyatt will not join the slate of other county elected officials who received pay raises this year.

What happened: The county’s eight elected constables, the district attorney, county attorney, district clerk and tax assessor-collector will earn $305,000 annually.

The court approved those raises in August. Per an Aug. 24 press release, Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth denied the raise.

Zooming in: The recommendation came as the county seeks to shutter the treasurer’s office. As part of its legislative priorities, Harris County officials will ask the state House and Senate to approve cutting the office. Other large counties in Texas, such as Galveston and Tarrant, have eliminated their treasurer’s offices.

The YMCA of Greater Houston will host a Senior Open House on Sept. 9 in honor of Healthy Aging Month, YMCA officials announced in an Aug. 27 news release.

What's happening? Open to residents age 55 and older alongside their families, friends and caregivers, the open house will take place at YMCA locations across the Greater Houston area. Per the release, the event will allow attendees to explore their local YMCA and learn more about ForeverWell programming.

Quote of note: "Many are entering a new phase of life, and doing so alongside a community while participating in activities that encourage movement, relationship building and exploring new interests keeps adults of all ages active and engaged," said Stephen Ives, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Houston, in a statement.

Three candidates are running to lead the Texas Department of Agriculture in the Nov. 3 election.

The details: Libertarian Austin R. Kelly, Republican Nate Sheets and Democrat Clayton Tucker are vying to become Texas' next commissioner of agriculture. The commissioner's duties include regulating agriculture, administering nutrition programs and providing rural economic development assistance.

How we got here: There is no incumbent in this race after Sheets beat sitting Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller in the March Republican primary. Tucker ran uncontested in the March Democratic primary, while Kelly was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

The winner of the November midterm will be sworn in to succeed Miller in January.

Looking ahead: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 in the midterm election, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
