'From Ukraine to Texas:' Lemberg Roastery & Bakery to open in Leander

A new Ukrainian-inspired bakery and cafe is coming to The Square at Crystal Falls. Lemberg Roastery & Bakery will open in early 2027, co-owner Olha Haida said.

“We would like to create a cozy spot to present our culture, to bring something new,” Haida said.

What they offer: While co-owner Nataliia Huk runs a catering and baking business, Haida runs a coffee-roasting brand. The two decided to merge their existing businesses to create a neighborhood cafe.

“Lemberg was born from a love of coffee, Ukrainian hospitality and the traditions we carried with us from home,” Haida said. “Lemberg is a historic name for Lviv, our hometown and a city with a centuries-old coffeehouse tradition.”

The bakery will offer sourdough, sandwiches and typical pastries. Haida said the caf will also serve classic Ukrainian dishes, such as Medovik, a Ukrainian honey cake; Horishki, walnut-shaped cookies with condensed milk; and Borscht, a beetroot soup served with dumplings

CenTex developers outline plans for planned 40-acre sports complex

Soccer fields, basketball courts and batting cages are among the amenities residents can expect from a planned 40-acre sports complex.

In a nutshell: CenTex Sports, the developer of the planned Game Changers Field of Dreams project, is currently working toward a Chapter 380 agreement with the city of Leander. Through this agreement, the city can provide economic incentives to promote the project’s development.

About the project: The 150,000-square-foot project is split across two phases. Veronica Romero, co-CEO of the project, said she expects a soft opening in early 2029 for the project's first phase.

Beyond sports facilities, the business plans to have several retail units, including:

  • A childcare and preschool facility

  • A restaurant and cafe

  • A retail shop offering sports equipment

  • A wellness and performance center

  • An arcade and party room

  • A development center offering tutoring, nonprofit programming and mental health support

  • A 5,500-square-foot event space with a capacity of 200 that can be rented for private events

Cedar Park City Council to discuss Flock cameras at special meeting Oct. 13

Cedar Park City Council members will discuss automated license plate readers, or ALPRs, which include Flock Safety cameras, at a specially called City Council meeting Oct. 13.

Before you go: The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room in Building Three at City Hall, not in the City Council chambers. The meeting agenda lists discussion only, meaning no immediate action is set to be taken regarding the city's Flock Safety contract.

Some context: Flock Safety makes ALPRs that photograph all vehicles passing by. The company uses artificial intelligence to interpret the photos, tagging them with data such as license plate numbers, vehicle color, make and model, and other identifying characteristics, Flock Safety representative Ian Leslie said at an Aug. 26 Liberty Hill City Council meeting.

Several area cities, including Leander, Liberty Hill and Pflugerville, have ended their contracts with Flock and shut down the cameras in recent months.
