Nonprofit organization serves more than 9,000 NBISD students in 2025-26 school year

Communities in Schools of South Central Texas, or CISSCT, a nonprofit organization working to support students at risk of dropping out, served 9,607 New Braunfels ISD students in the 2025-26 school year, according to preliminary data presented by CISSCT CEO Susan Wetz during a June 15 school board meeting.

Zooming in: Approximately 923 students received continuous intensive services, and 2,405 students received targeted services for additional support ranging from food, school supplies and resources for parents to ongoing individual and small group services. There were 9,607 students who received schoolwide prevention services, according to the presentation.

CISSCT provided 985 students with attendance-related services. Of those, 53 students received rides to or from school for a total of 258 trips, according to board documents.

The organization also provides mental health and counseling services through site coordinators and clinical counselors.

Hunter Road Country Club bar and grill now open in New Braunfels

A locally owned bar and grill named Hunter Road Country Club is now open in New Braunfels.

What you need to know: The bar and grill, located at 1176 FM 306, is owned by brothers Seth and Chase Katz along with Benjie Ackerman. Hunter Road Country Club has a patio with an outdoor bar and a juke box. Kids are welcome at the establishment until 7 p.m., and dogs are not allowed.

What they offer: Hunter Road Country Club serves various cocktails with appetizers, including birria cheese fries, crab dip, wings and birria frito pie. The bar's menu also has patty melts, birria grilled cheese sandwiches, vodka Parmesan sandwiches and more.

Buc-ee’s in San Marcos sets summer opening date

The highly anticipated Buc-ee’s location in San Marcos has set a date for its grand opening and is close to welcoming customers to its newest travel center. The store will officially open its doors Aug. 12.

The overview: The 74,707-square-foot travel station broke ground on Jan. 29, 2025. The project had an estimated construction cost of $47 million and was originally slated to open late 2025, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.

San Marcos’ Buc-ee’s location will be one of the largest in the region, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The facility falls 886 square feet short of the world’s largest convenience store, a title currently held by the franchise’s Luling location at 75,593 square feet.

What’s available: The travel center will feature Buc-ee's merchandise and popular food options, including barbecue, fudge, kolaches and Beaver Nuggets, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The location will also have 128 fueling stations.

Austin-based jewelry business opens in Tanger Outlets San Marcos

An Austin-based jewelry and accessory business has opened its doors in San Marcos at the Tanger Outlet mall.

What happened: Kylo Artistry opened its first brick-and-mortar location in the outlets following growth generated through pop-up events and online sales, according to a Tanger Outlets news release.

The business now operates from a 1,200-square-foot store located next to Wayfair and Perfumes 4 U.

“Kylo Artistry's opening marks an exciting milestone for a business that was created within our community,” Jarrett Medders, Tanger San Marcos marketing director, said in the news release.

What they sell: The locally owned business offers permanent jewelry and accessories, including custom-fitted bracelets, necklaces and anklets. The boutique designer creates personalized pieces of jewelry starting at $45.
