Tomball holds tax rate steady as wastewater plant debt moves forward

Tomball City Council adopted an unchanged property tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 as the city also moves forward with debt to fund water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Council voted unanimously Sept. 8 to adopt a tax rate of $0.3409 per $100 valuation, the same rate as the previous year.

What this means: The rate includes $0.1857 for maintenance and operations and $0.1551 for debt service.

Although the overall rate remains the same, property owners could see changes to their tax bills depending on taxable property values and exemptions. The adopted rate is above the city’s no-new-revenue rate of $0.3296 per $100 valuation.

Also of note: The tax rate comes as Tomball prepares to take on additional debt for major utility projects.

During its Sept. 21 meeting, council approved the final reading of an ordinance authorizing the issuance of combination tax and revenue certificates of obligation.
