San Marcos CISD opens District 2 seat applications through April 20

The Single Member District 2 seat on the San Marcos CISD board of trustees will soon be vacant, and community members now have the opportunity to submit an application to be appointed to fill the seat.

How we got here: The district canceled its May election after District 1 trustee Jessica Cain and District 3 trustee Sandra Lopez were the only candidates to file in their races. However, District 2 trustee Margie Villalpando—whose term is also up in May—is not seeking reelection, and no candidates filed to run in her place. According to district officials, trustees can either appoint someone or call a special election to fill the seat.

Get involved: Prospective candidates can submit an application on the district website. The seat must be filled by someone who has resided within the District 2 boundary for at least six months.

Submissions are due by 2 p.m. April 20, and the board is expected to make the appointment at the board meeting that night. The appointee will serve until May 2027.
