41 townhomes coming soon to nearly 6-acre site in Allen

A new townhome community is coming soon to Allen.

Allen City Council members unanimously approved a zoning change for just under 6 acres of land near Allen Drive, which allows for the development of a 41-townhome community, at a July 28 meeting.

The gist: Located east of Central Expressway and southwest of Allen Drive, the site’s previous zoning allowed for shopping center uses, Senior Planner Kim Yockey said. The concept plan for the development includes:

  • 41 townhomes
  • A 5,000-square-foot dog park
  • Around 1.5 acres of open space with benches
  • A masonry wall and landscaping
  • Public parallel parking spaces along Allen Drive
  • A 10-foot-wide trail that will connect to existing infrastructure

Texas Woman’s University to build $30M athletics facility

Texas Woman’s University will construct a $30 million brand-new athletics facility, the university announced.

What’s happening: The university received a $10 million donation from an alumna that will go toward the on-campus athletics facility, according to a news release. The venue is expected to break ground in 2027.

Dawn Chaney, who played three sports at TWU in the 1960s, made the donation to the project. The new facility will bear her name. 

The athletics complex will be 30,000-35,000 square feet and will support the university’s growing athletics program as well as the needs of student-athletes, the release states.

“I am excited to support this new athletics complex because it will provide student-athletes with the resources, facilities and opportunities they deserve to excel in competition, in the classroom and in life,” Chaney said.

Some of its menu items include Buffalo chicken, classic Caesar, Cobb and Southwest salads that all come in the baguette. It also offers salads and other bowls that do not come in the baguette.
