Proposed 15-lot housing development in Southlake clears first hurdle

Plans for a 15-home subdivision off North Peytonville Avenue received approval during a first reading at the Feb. 3 Southlake City Council meeting.

The rezoning for Jane’s Place from agriculture to a residential planned unit development, presented by custom home builder Coleigh Homes, was approved 6-0. A second reading, for formal approval, is set for the Feb. 17 council meeting.

The details: The development was first launched at a Southlake Program for the Involvement of Neighborhoods in August and led to a 2 1/2-hour meeting, according to city documents. Coleigh Homes would not propose a development with less than one acre per lot, and stormwater drainage was a concern at the time.

Zooming in: The 15-lot development will feature four open spaces for landscaping and drainage, according to the presentation.

The property drains from the southeast to the northwest and into Higgins Branch Creek. Jerry Statham, a partner at Coleigh Homes, said he worked with engineers and the city to help ease concerns about drainage issues.

Keller Sports Park renovation in final stretch

Construction crews fanned out across Keller Sports Park in late December as the city moved forward with a $40.8 million renovation. The work is transforming the complex into a local sports destination designed to elevate family life for Keller residents.

Funded primarily through certificates of obligation backed by Keller Development Corp. sales tax revenue, the project will unveil 12 renovated baseball and softball fields and expand facilities for lacrosse, equestrian and soccer competitions set to debut this spring. As of Jan. 20, all but five fields have been finished and can be utilized.

The framework: The plans for renovating Keller Sports Park started in 2021 when a task force formed to discuss transforming the three baseball fields that were constructed in the 1970s. The task force recommended significant renovations and updates in March 2022.

Going forward: The park will debut the Victory Field North and Victory Field South baseball fields this spring after a ribbon-cutting ceremony was pushed back from January to April.
