Southlake, Grapevine hospitals invest in cardiology to combat countywide issue

Two hospitals, 4 miles apart on SH 114, are addressing heart health in Tarrant County, which has been a top two cause of death in the county.
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Grapevine is expanding its heart program to a new building, its seventh heart-specific location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The other Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospitals offer open-heart surgery, robotic heart surgery, bypass surgery and heart transplants.

Methodist Southlake Medical Center launched its heart attack program in February 2024, providing 24/7 care for emergency response, a cardiac catheterization lab and inpatient treatment, earning a national award 15 months later.

What's happening: The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association awarded a Gold Seal of Approval in 2025 to 24 Texas hospitals as primary heart attack centers, including Baylor Scott & White-Grapevine and Methodist Southlake Medical Center.

Dr. Anas Alomar of Methodist Southlake Medical Center said the time from ambulance arrival to clear a heart artery blockage is 57 minutes, below the national average of 90 minutes.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD trustees adopt $237.7M FY 2026-27 budget

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD trustees approved a balanced general fund budget, which includes raises for staff and raises the starting pay for certified teachers.

Trustees approved the $237.7 million budget for fiscal year 2026-27 during the June 15 meeting by a 5-2 vote, with trustees Darrell Brown and Lindsey Sheguit voting against.

The details: GCISD’s general fund revenues and expenditures are balanced at $185.23 million, respectively, according to district documents. According to a presentation by GCISD Chief Financial Officer Karla Settle, net of recapture and tax increment fund payments, 85.46% of the district’s expenditures are for payroll.

GCISD officials also unanimously approved a compensation plan that increases expenditures by $1.8 million from staff and employee raises.

Zooming in: The projected tax rate for FY 2026-27 is unchanged from the fiscal year 2025-26 at $0.8686 per $100 valuation, per district documents. 

GCISD officials plan to present a tax rate for adoption in August after receiving certified property values in July.

Carroll ISD trustees adopt $160.78M FY 2026-27 budget

The Carroll ISD budget for fiscal year 2026-27 will include staff raises between 3% and 5%, as well as other salary and rate adjustments.

Trustees unanimously approved the FY 2026-27 budget during the June 15 meeting. The adopted budget is balanced, meaning that revenues and expenditures are the same values.

What you need to know: Total revenues for the budget are more than $160.78 million and expenditures are also over $160.78 million, including a budgeted $21.5 million recapture payment to the state.

CISD’s general operating fund revenue totals nearly $124.62 million, according to district documents. General operating fund expenditures are the same value.

Zooming in: The proposed tax rate for the FY 2026-27 budget is $0.9294 per $100 valuation, which is the same as the current tax rate.

The proposed maintenance and operations component of the tax rate, which covers general operating expenses, is $0.6853 per $100 valuation. The proposed interest and sinking component of the tax rate is $0.2441 per $100 valuation.

What's next: The tax rate is expected to be adopted in August.

The details: Owner James Bohan-Pitt said the grand opening of The Designery's showroom will be in September 2026.

Several construction projects are slated to start around Dallas-Fort Worth. The projects include renovations and new construction.

Check out five major construction permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation around the Metroplex.

1. Celestica main office and warehouse: Technology logistics and manufacturing company Celestica will finish out a 345,000-square-foot space in Richardson for its main office and warehouse, TDLR documents state. Celestica provides services for artificial intelligence computing and data storage, according to the company website.

  • Estimated cost: $17 million

2. Kirby Ice House: Bar and patio Kirby Ice House is scheduled to start construction in Plano, TDLR documents state. The company offers more than 50 beers on tap and hosts food trucks and dog-friendly patios. Kirby Ice House operates four other locations, according to the company website.
