9 road projects to follow in The Woodlands area in January

Several projects are underway in The Woodlands area as part of the 2025 Montgomery County road bond.

Upcoming projects
1. Lake Woodlands Drive at Gosling Road intersection improvements
Project:
The project will extend turn lanes from eastbound Lake Woodlands Drive onto northbound Gosling Road. It will also extend turn lanes from westbound Lake Woodlands Drive onto southbound Gosling Road.
Update: Engineering design was complete in early December and utility coordination was ongoing, Precinct 3 officials said.

  • Timeline: Construction will begin in early 2026.
  • Cost: $40,000 (design)
  • Funding source: Montgomery County road bond

2. Research Forest Drive at Gosling Road turn lane extension

Project: The project will extend dual left-turn lanes from westbound Research Forest Drive to southbound Gosling Road. They will also be extended from Gosling Road to Research Forest Drive in both directions.
Update: Engineering design was complete and utility coordination was ongoing as of early December, officials said.
  • Timeline: Construction will begin in early 2026.
  • Cost: $25,500 (design)
  • Funding source: Montgomery County road bond

Filing opens Jan. 1 for The Woodlands village associations and committees

As of Jan. 1, filing is open in The Woodlands Township for more than 100 positions that will be up for election Feb. 21 on the Residential Design Review Committees and Village Associations in The Woodlands.

What you need to know: Filing begins at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 1 and concludes at 5 p.m. Jan. 22. Township offices are closed Jan. 1, but forms can be submitted online or via email or fax, according to information from the township. Hand-delivered forms and other filing methods will be accepted beginning Jan. 2 at 8:30 a.m.

To vote, individuals must be:

  • Residents or property owners in good standing of the respective village
  • Age 18 and older

United Airlines now offering route to Tepic, Mexico, out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport

United Airlines launched its first nonstop service route from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Tepic, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, on Dec. 20, according to a Dec. 22 news release.

The details: With the addition of the route, IAH will now serve as the sole U.S. destination out of the Tepic International Airport, according to the news release. The new route operates once a week on Saturdays, with seasonal service available from mid-December to mid-August. It provides direct access to the Riviera Nayarit region, according to the news release. With the addition of Tepic, United now serves 24 destinations in Mexico and 52 destinations across Latin America from IAH, the news release states.

Also of note: At William P. Hobby Airport, travelers moving through the Central Concourse now have a new sit-down dining option with the December opening of the Yard House, according to a Dec. 22 news release.
