Allen to consider special use permit, amending land code at June 23 meeting

Members of Allen City Council will discuss authorizing a specific use permit for a business, amending the city’s land development code and more at an upcoming June meeting.

Allen City Council will meet at 6 p.m. June 23 for a work session, with a regular meeting to follow at 7 p.m.

A closer look: Council members will hold a public hearing and consider approval of a special use permit to allow a golf simulation business to lease space along Bethany Drive.

Dynamite Performance Golf is a golf simulation business that uses a high-speed 3D motion capture system to help members improve their golf technique, per its website. The proposed business will occupy approximately 6,500 square feet of space at 105 W. Bethany Drive, Ste. 130, per city documents.

World record-breaking 'Tormenta Rampaging Run' coaster to debut June 26 at Six Flags Over Texas

The first “giga dive” coaster is opening at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington on June 26.

The details: The Tormenta Rampaging Run reaches 309 feet above ground and has a 285-foot drop, according to the Six Flags website.

The coaster comes with a new immersive, themed area with inspirations from Spain, according to a news release. Visitors can explore a fictional town called Rancho de la Tormenta Plaza and a new restaurant, Cocina Abuela. The restaurant will offer Spanish and Latin American cuisine like Spanish rice, chicken tinga and housemade guacamole.

The new ride is opening ahead of the Arlington amusement park celebrating its 65th anniversary Aug. 1, according to the release. The Arlington location is the company’s first location.

On the Border shutters all company-owned locations

Tex-Mex restaurant On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina permanently closed all company-owned restaurants in mid-June, according to an emailed statement from OTB Hospitality.

The overview: The company made the decision through an “evaluation of the business,” according to the statement.

“On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina has made the difficult decision to move forward with a significant transition in its restaurant operations, which [included] the closing of company-owned locations by end of day Friday, June 12, 2026,” the statement read. “This decision follows a thorough evaluation of the business and was not made lightly.”

The statement added that the franchised locations will remain open.

Some background: A news release from Houston-based Pappas Restaurants, the parent company of Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen and Pappasito’s Cantina, stated that the organization purchased On the Border May 1.

The restaurant offered nachos, quesadillas, fajitas and burritos, according to its menu.
