League City Police Unit aims to decrease theft on ‘hot spot’ I-45 corridor

League City Police Department launched a dedicated Business District Unit in July to focus on property crimes, including theft, vandalism and vehicle burglaries in the business district along I-45, which officers say is a “hot spot” for crime.

What you need to know: The unit is comprised of six positions—one sergeant, one detective and four patrol-level officers, Sgt. Seth King said.

By the numbers: On average, about 18% of all calls for service for the entire city originate from the business district, located along I-45 and FM 646, King said.

Looking ahead: King said he expects that by encouraging businesses to report all crimes, it will initially result in a slight increase in the number of calls for service, followed by a decline overall. The initial goal is to reduce the overall number of calls in the district by approximately 10%, he said.

Houston’s housing market for September more balanced than previous months

Home affordability in the Houston region has a more balanced position in the September housing affordability report from the Houston Association of Realtors.

At a glance: Single-family homes priced from $250,000 to $499,999, which accounted for more than 55% of all September sales, experienced a 1.3% decline compared to the same time last year, according to the report.

Digging deeper: The median home price was $327,000, which is 2.1% less than last year’s figure. The average price inched up 2% to $421,655, largely due to a rise in luxury home sales in September, per the release.

Quote of note: “The past few months have brought lower mortgage rates, and it has helped boost buyer confidence,” HAR Chair Shae Cottar with LPT Realty said in a statement.
