By December, League City Police Department hopes to have a fully operational drone as first responder, or DFR, program, where the department will dispatch drones to 911 calls.

What else: The drones will arrive on the scene ahead of responding patrol officers, providing live video to the officers en route to the scene, Assistant Police Chief Stephen Antley said.

The details: League City City Council voted unanimously at its July 14 meeting to enter a one-year pilot program agreement with Motorola Solutions to add two docking stations with one drone each to locations on the east and west sides of League City. The city has not yet determined the exact locations for those docking stations, Antley said. 

One more thing: Currently, the department’s average response time is six minutes and 10 seconds, however, with the drones, the department would be able to cut response times to under two minutes, Antley said.

Houston-based ice house chain Kirby Ice House will open its Clear Lake location in September, staff said. 

The details: The location will have all the features of Kirby Ice House's four other Houston-area locations plus expanded amenities, staff said. 

What else: The Clear Lake Kirby Ice House location is currently hiring for positions, according to the business' website.

The June Housing Market Update from the Houston Association of Realtors reports a rise in home sales and pending activity with steady overall pricing.

By the numbers: The number of single-family homes sold increased by 3.5%, with 8,820 homes sold in June compared to last June with 8,525 sold. The average home price rose 1.2% to $455,159, while the median home price slightly decreased by just 0.3%.

Total property sales across the Houston area rose by 2.6% with 10,181 properties sold, and the number of active property listings increased 2.2%, equaling 59,970.

Also of note: The luxury market remained strong with home sales over the price of $1 million rising 17.1% year over year.

However, the townhome and condominium market showed a 9.3% fall year over year with 439 in June compared to 484 last June, data shows.
