Pearland calls 2 special elections for May 2 in addition to the general election

On May 2, Pearland voters will face a robust ballot that includes mayoral and City Council elections, as well as two policy propositions.

The details: Pearland City Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 9 meeting to order a general election and special elections for those three offices and the two propositions, which include whether to adopt civil service law for the fire department and amendments to nine different sections of the city’s charter.

Also of note: Voters will also face a decision on whether to adopt the Fire Fighters’ Civil Service Law for the Pearland Fire Department and make amendments to the city's charter regarding how the city notifies the public about meetings and other items.

What else: Early voting will run from April 20 to April 28 and the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day.

Pearland ISD’s board of trustees approved two agreements at its Feb. 10 meeting related to student teaching placements in the district.

The details: The approvals formalize partnerships with 240 Certification and the University of Houston’s College of Education, outlining terms for placing student observers, interns and student teachers on district campuses.
