Comal, New Braunfels ISDs announce Jan. 26 closure due to icy weather conditions

Comal ISD and New Braunfels ISD campuses and departments will be closed Jan. 26 due to freezing temperatures and potential hazardous ice conditions.

What you need to know: All extracurricular events scheduled for Monday at NBISD are also cancelled, according to a district announcement.

Stay tuned: CISD officials said they will monitor weather conditions throughout Monday to assess potential issues for Tuesday morning. Families are being encouraged to monitor the district's social media, local news and radio stations for any possible updates.

NBISD students and staff will need to plan to return to school Jan. 27, however, the district will continue to monitor the weather conditions and have discussions with local officials regarding the morning of Jan. 27. If there is a change for the school day, parents and staff will be notified before 5 p.m. on Jan. 26 through ParentSquare, social media and www.nbisd.org, according to the announcement.

Texas State Technical College's New Braunfels campus, which is located at 2189 FM 758, will be closed Jan. 26 due to winter weather, according to a news release.

What you need to know: Online classes will continue as scheduled and all employees will work remotely, the release states.

Texas State University cancels classes Jan. 26 due to weather

All Texas State University campuses, classes and offices are canceled for Jan. 26 due to weather conditions.

The details: In a Jan. 25 statement, university officials said the closure includes the following:

  • San Marcos campus
  • Round Rock campus
  • Online classes
  • University events
  • University offices

Zooming in: University buses will not run, and dining locations throughout the San Marcos campus will be closed, except for the following:
  • Commons and Harris dining halls: close at 8 p.m. on Jan. 25; open Jan. 26, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Jones Dining Center: opens at noon on Jan. 26, weather permitting
Police, residential life and other facilities staff will remain available, according to the release.

Stay tuned: Officials said they will watch the weather and make a decision by 2 p.m. Jan. 26 on possible Jan. 27 campus closures.

Alamo Colleges District cancels Jan. 26 classes

All Alamo Colleges will be closed Jan. 26 due to inclement weather, according to an announcement on the Alamo Colleges District website.

All classes, events and services will be closed.

Some details: Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe and Caldwell counties are under an extreme cold warning until Jan. 26 at noon, according to the National Weather Service, or NWS. Dangerously cold wind chills, as low as 5 degrees below zero, could result in hypothermia or frostbite, according to NWS.

Officials with the Alamo Colleges District will continue to monitor the weather conditions in coordination with NWS. Any urgent updates will be shared through the Alamo Alert emergency notification system, according to a Facebook post from the district.
