Lakes of Riata shopping center to undergo ownership change

The Lakes of Riata shopping center, located on Barker Cypress Road near Towne Lake, has been sold to a new owner, according to an Aug. 20 news release. Real estate firm Finial Group sold the property to a "long-standing investment partner" who could not be named as of press time, per the release. 

The details: The 31,113-square-foot shopping center includes a combination of local businesses and chain vendors, including Tacarbon Authentic Mexican Grill, Towne Lake Chiropractic & Massage, Shipley Do-Nuts and P&P Desserts and Coffee. 

In their words: “Finial Group successfully navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and shifting market dynamics to establish a resilient tenant base, ultimately positioning the asset for a successful sale,” the firm shared in the release. “[The retail center’s] visibility, accessibility and tenant stability have all contributed to the project’s long-term appeal to both consumers and investors.”

Home sales rise, prices fall in July for Cy-Fair area

Across the Cy-Fair area, more homes were sold in July 2025 as median home prices saw a slight decline overall.

The details: According to single-family, condominium and townhome residential data from Homeward, the 77429 zip code saw the highest jump in new home sales over the same time in 2024. The exception was the 77040 area, which saw a slight decline in home sales.

What else?: Median home prices also fell slightly across the Cy-Fair community, while average days on the market went up.

State Sen. Brandon Creighton to be named sole finalist for Texas Tech University System chancellor

State Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, will be officially named the sole finalist for the position of chancellor and CEO for the Texas Tech University System at a Sept. 4 board of regents meeting, according to the meeting agenda. Creighton will succeed former chancellor Tedd Mitchell, who announced his plans to retire within the year, according to a July 11 news release.

Some context: Creighton was first elected to the Texas Senate in 2014, and serves District 4, which encompasses parts of Montgomery, Harris, Chambers, Jefferson and Galveston counties, according to the district website. During the 89th regular legislative session, Creighton sponsored House Bill 2, which Gov. Greg Abbott signed June 4 and gives public schools $8.5 billion in funding over the next two years.

Quote of note: “I feel very blessed to have been considered for the role of chancellor,” Creighton said via X. “There is no greater purpose I would consider than working to make generational changes that transform the lives of young Texans for decades to come.”

CFA Grand Pkwy at Tomball Pkwy FSU

Chick-fil-A is opening a new location in Tomball near the intersection of Hwy. 249 and the Grand Parkway, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The details: Construction is set to begin in May 2026 and finish in October 2026, according to the filing. The project has an estimated cost of $4.5 million. Details are subject to change. Menu items from the fast-food chain include chicken sandwiches, strips and nuggets, along with sides such as salads and fries.
