Home sales decrease year over year in February in the Conroe, Montgomery area

Home sales saw a decline year over year in February in the Conroe and Montgomery area, according to market data provided by local real estate firm The Sawyer Realty Group.

What you need to know: In five of the eight ZIP codes in the Conroe and Montgomery area, home sales decreased, with total home sales decreasing 3.6% year over year in February.


More details: The median price of homes sold year over year in February increased in six of the eight ZIP codes in the Conroe and Montgomery area. 77356 saw the largest percentage increase of 27.45%—going from $362,500 to $462,000.
 
What else: In five of the eight ZIP codes in the Conroe and Montgomery area, the average time on the market increased year over year in February. The largest percentage increase was in 77356 at 58.82%—homes went from spending an average of 85 days on the market last February to 135 days on the market this February.

Little Dreamers Playhouse rebrands to The Village Play Cafe in Montgomery

As of March, officials said the former Little Dreamers Playhouse rebranded to The Village Play Cafe under new ownership with owner Caroline Plagens. Community Impact previously reported that Little Dreamer’s Playhouse made the decision to close its establishment by Feb. 27.

The details: Designed as a play space for young children and their families, officials said The Village Play Cafe plans to gradually introduce several updates.

Upgrades planned include:

  • An upgraded cafe featuring espresso drinks, lattes and specialty beverages for parents
  • A private birthday party room
  • Weekly enrichment classes for children
  • New play features, including a slide and ice cream truck

Fleet Week Houston ship lineup announced

The city of Houston and the U.S. Navy announced the lineup of ships for the first-ever Fleet Week Houston.

The event: Fleet Week Houston will bring U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard vessels to the Port of Houston on April 15-22. During that week, the public will have the chance to meet and engage with service members, learn about the ships' roles in national defense and take ship tours.

Participating ships include:

  • USS Kearsarge (LHD-3): an assault ship designed for multi-purpose operations, including troop transport and aircraft support
  • USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (LCS-21): a littoral combat ship optimized for operations in near-shore environments with high speed and agility
  • USS Cooperstown (LCS-23): a littoral combat ship sharing the same advanced capabilities for coastal missions
  • USCGC Edgar Culbertson (WPC-1137): a fast response cutter equipped for a range of missions, including search and rescue, law enforcement and port security

Houston Mayor John Whitmire said the city is excited to welcome Fleet Week.
