Texas Fine Arts Theater slated for mid-September reopening

The Texas Fine Arts Theater on the square is slated for a mid-September reopening, said Jason Reimer, who is the creative director and co-owner of Aviation Cinemas and the operator for the Texas Theater and Texas Fine Arts Theater.

Some context: The theater has been undergoing renovations since 2024, per previous Community Impact reporting. The improvements will repair water and structural damage and add a full bar on the second floor and concessions on the first floor, Reimer said.

The renovations will also add two two-story theaters with 240 downstairs seats and 50 upstairs seats, Reimer added.

North Texas Fair & Rodeo announces 2026 music lineup

The music lineup for the 98th annual North Texas Fair & Rodeo was announced June 16. The 10-day event will take place Aug. 21-30.

The details: Country act Diamond Rio will be one of the headliners during the fair. The band has been active since 1984, and their hits include "Meet in the Middle" and "How Your Love Makes Me Feel."

Other headlining acts include country artist Kody West, who is from North Texas, and country musician Chris Cagle.

There will be two stages set up each night: one will have the headlining acts and the other stage will have live music starting at 6 p.m.

What else? The fair is hosted by the nonprofit North Texas State Fair Association at the fairgrounds on Carroll Boulevard in Denton. All generated revenue is funneled directly back into local youth scholarships, agricultural programs and community facilities, according to its website.

The event has professional and youth rodeos, livestock and agricultural shows, carnival rides, food and beverage vendors. Tickets are now available on its website.

Red Rook Tattoo offers tattoo, piercing services in Denton

Tattoo shop Red Rook Tattoo opened in downtown Denton in early April, shop artist Mik Barnett said.

The overview: The shop is in the space where Hurts so Good Tattoo was previously located. The shop offers daily $40 flash tattoos, custom tattoos and piercings. Flash tattoos are pre-designed tattoos that artists can quickly apply to clients' skin.

Red Rook Tattoo will host a grand opening event on June 20, Barnett said.

New bar, hospital renovations: Check out 5 major construction permits around DFW

Several construction projects are slated to start around Dallas-Fort Worth. The projects include renovations and new construction.

Check out five major construction permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation around the Metroplex.

1. Celestica main office and warehouse: Technology logistics and manufacturing company Celestica will finish out a 345,000-square-foot space in Richardson for its main office and warehouse, TDLR documents state. Celestica provides services for artificial intelligence computing and data storage, according to the company website.

2. Kirby Ice House: Bar and patio Kirby Ice House is scheduled to start construction in Plano, TDLR documents state. The company offers more than 50 beers on tap and hosts food trucks and dog-friendly patios. Kirby Ice House operates four other locations, according to the company website.
