Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels uses new technology to help better detect bladder cancer

Urologists at Resolute Baptist Hospital received the green light in May to begin using a new technology that will help detect bladder cancer earlier.

Why it matters: Dr. Ryan Donahue, a urologist at Resolute Baptist Hospital in New Braunfels, said bladder cancer is incredibly common and is the fifth most common solid organ tumor in the population. Although some tumors are benign, the vast majority of them are malignant and cancerous. Doctors will place those patients under general anesthesia and remove the cancerous tumors by using a camera in the urethra.

“These tumors are highly recurrent, meaning that when we removed them, we removed all the tissue that we could see and say we look back in the bladder in three months or six months, now there’s another tumor maybe in the same region or maybe in a different region,” Donahue said.

7,500-square-foot event pavilion completed in Mayfair

A 7,500-square-foot open-air pavilion for events and gatherings made its debut to Mayfair residents May 9.

The pavilion—located at 708 Guthrie Trail, Bldg. 1 in Midtown Mayfair—is called Celebration Hall. Celebration Hall is the first building to be completed in Phase 1 of Midtown Mayfair, which is the development’s recreation and retail hub. Developers broke ground on the amenity in September 2025, Kristi Robinson, vice president of marketing and communications relations for SouthStar Communities, said in an email to Community Impact.

The overview: Although the amenity is for Mayfair residents, it will also serve as a place to host public events, such as Mayfest and an upcoming December holiday market, Robinson said in the email. Celebration Hall is designed for various events and gatherings.

Surgeon works to advance Central Texas spine care through technology

Dr. Akshay Yadhati, a surgeon with Austin Regional Clinic, performed two different high-tech spine surgeries this year that were both Austin-area firsts, according to a spokesperson for the medical group. Yadhati spoke to Community Impact about the procedures and what they mean for spine care in Central Texas.

The overview: Yadhati performed a robotic navigated spinal interbody fusion on an adult patient and an endoscopic spine surgery. Both techniques are significant steps forward in spinal care, he said, because they improve the safety and accuracy of the surgeries and minimize invasiveness and recovery time.

Why it matters: “If I were dealing with [these problems], these are the techniques I would want done on my back,” Yadhati said. “That’s the main theme that I try to anchor a lot of my decisions in. If I’m the patient, or my mom, dad, brother or wife is the patient, how do I want them to be going through a surgery?”
