Pearland purchases 11 AI-powered sensors to improve the city’s traffic flow

Pearland recently made significant progress in its effort to streamline traffic regulation with the purchase of 11 NoTraffic sensors powered by artificial intelligence to provide the city with real-time traffic data and alert the city when there’s a problem.

What happened: Pearland City Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 23 meeting to purchase 11 sensors from Texas Highway Products for $319,000 to be installed at intersections across the city.

The backstory: In 2025, the city bought over 30 sensor systems from Texas Highway Products, as previously reported by Community Impact

Like the latest purchase, future sensors will be installed in batches of about 10-15 intersections at a time, Pearland Traffic Superintendent Mario Tellez said.

The timeline: The sensors will be installed within 45 days of receipt of the purchase order, Texas Highway Products Sales Director Tim Morehead said.

Friendswood ISD moves forward with foundation projects at Friendswood HS, administration building

Friendswood High School and Friendswood ISD’s administration building are slated to undergo construction over the summer for foundation projects. The board of trustees approved Harris County-based contractor Millennium Project Solutions Inc. as the district’s contractor for the projects.

The contractor was approved at the board’s Feb. 23 workshop through Construction Manager at Risk, or CMAR, which was approved as the project delivery method for the foundation projects at its Dec. 8 meeting.

What you need to know: Through this approval, the board also approved Millennium’s $12,000 pre-construction fee.

During the pre-construction phase, Millennium will come in “as soon as possible” to do the following:

  • Work closely with district staff and VLK Architects, which provides architectural and engineering services for the district
  • Walk the facilities, look behind walls and under the buildings
  • Help finalize drawings and the scope of projects

Remember this: Previously, FISD Superintendent Thad Roher said these projects will spend the remaining 2020 bond funds that were listed under “priority maintenance projects.”
