The city of Round Rock has several ongoing transportation projects happening throughout the city. Check out some of the latest updates on road construction.

South Chisholm Trail Road
Project: The city is reconstructing Chisholm Trail Road from Sam Bass Road to RM 620, with drainage, pedestrian and lighting improvements.
Update: Northbound traffic was shifted from the west side of the roadway to the east side Aug. 10, so that the west side can be built. The road remains closed to southbound traffic.

  • Timeline: summer 2025-fall 2026
  • Cost: $4.26 million
  • Funding source: Type B sales tax revenue

Smyers Lane rehabilitation
Project: This project will rebuild the roadway from RM 620 to Wyoming Springs.
Update: Contracts are being finalized in August for construction to begin in September.
  • Timeline: September 2026-late 2026
  • Cost: $1.38 million
  • Funding source: Type B sales tax revenue

$1.3M renovation coming to Round Rock Walmart

A filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows both an interior and exterior renovation is planned for the Walmart at the northeast corner of I-35 and Louis Henna Boulevard in Round Rock.

The details: Per the filing, the project’s scope is limited to 13,637 square feet of the 203,115-square-foot store’s interior. Estimated costs for the project are $1.3 million.
The remodel is set to begin at the end of January and wrap up around mid-May.

Q&A: Meet the candidates for Williamson County Precinct 4 commissioner

Two candidates will be on the ballot for Precinct 4 Williamson County commissioner, including Republican incumbent Russ Boles facing off against Democratic candidate Harmon Rhea.

Precinct 4 is the largest geographically of the Williamson County precincts, and includes most of Hutto, Taylor, Jarrell and Weir, as well as the eastern parts of Georgetown and Round Rock.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 election runs from Oct. 19-30.

Baldinucci Pizza Romana debuts Domain Northside location

Family-owned Baldinucci Pizza Romana, operated by Salvatore, Patricia, and Gabriel Baldinucci, has debuted its second Austin location at Domain Northside. The Italian eatery specializes in high-quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods, featuring two distinct dough styles: New York and Roman.

The Roman-style dough is crafted with imported Italian flour and pure extra virgin olive oil. Pizza is served by the slice with toppings like margherita, sausage and honey, or fig and arugula. The menu also includes a variety of salads (house, Caesar, and Greek), New York hero sandwiches, and small dishes such as meatball parmigiana. The original West Lake Hills location is currently closed for renovations and will reopen in November.

Local Foods opens second Austin location

Local Foods' second Austin location is officially serving lunch, dinner, cocktails and coffee, and will debut weekend brunch in September.

The eatery offers fan favorites alongside expanded entrees and is committed to sourcing from Texas producers. Exclusives to this location include the Borracho Beef Sandwich—featuring Mexican-style red wine braised beef, cilantro-cabbage slaw, pickled peppers, and aioli on toasted ciabatta—and a sesame-tamari marinated salmon poke bowl. Patrons can also enjoy salads, bowls, sandwiches, soups, and desserts.

Scheels holds ribbon cutting ahead of Aug. 29 opening

Representatives from sporting goods store Scheels cut the ribbon on the company’s newest store in Cedar Park alongside local government and business leaders Aug. 25. The store will open to the public Aug. 29.


The details: Scheels is an employee-owned store that sells a wide variety of sports and outdoor equipment, clothing and more.


The Cedar Park location is the second in Texas and one of the largest retail spaces in the state, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.


In addition to shopping, visitors to the Cedar Park Scheels can ride a 65-foot indoor Ferris wheel, view roughly 600 fish in a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium, and visit a candy shop and a cafe.
