Round Rock to consider facade grant expansion

The city of Round Rock is eyeing an expansion to its Commercial Facade and Site Improvement Grant program, with a resolution up for a City Council vote March 26.

The overview: The grant program is meant to help business owners and tenants improve the exteriors of buildings within the program boundaries. The program has previously been available to properties within two areas along Mays Street.

City staff recommended the program expand its boundaries by connecting North Mays and South Mays areas into one corridor, as well as adding a portion of Round Rock Avenue, from Deep Wood Drive to South I-35 Frontage Road.

“Both routes include high opportunity shopping centers and downtown businesses location along Mays,” said Joe Brehm, director of community and neighborhood services. “These were selected in consultation with the [Round Rock] Chamber to maximize our combined efforts on commercial revitalization.”

Rock’N River water park in Round Rock set to open this summer as expansion nears completion

The Old Settlers Park expansion is moving closer to completion, with the Rock’N River water park nearing the finish line and expected to open in time for the summer, according to a city update.

What’s happening? Rock’N River is one of several projects included in the broader expansion of Round Rock’s largest park.

Plans include a new river-style attraction, private cabana spaces and expanded parking. The upgrades are expected to increase capacity while introducing a faster-paced experience for visitors.

The project will also connect the water park to the future recreation center, allowing for more coordinated operations and shared access between the two facilities.

Williamson County officials reevaluate voting procedures for upcoming primary runoff

County officials, party leaders and voters unpacked what went wrong on the March primary election day, and detailed the changes residents can expect when they return to the polls, during a March 24 special meeting called by Williamson County commissioners.

What happened: Because of the shift to precinct-level voting for the March 3 primary election day, the county had to secure and equip a larger number of polling locations on a shorter timeline. Additionally, both parties struggled to fully staff these locations, Williamson County Elections Administrator Bridgette Escobedo said.

Many voters arrived at the wrong location, drove to multiple sites and faced wait times of up to two to three hours, according to multiple accounts from election day voters at the meeting.

What’s next: Both parties have agreed to return to countywide voting for the upcoming primary runoff May 26.

Voters will be able to vote at any Williamson County polling location, and both parties have agreed to share locations to reduce confusion and share resources.
