Proposed 34-acre development could bring new housing and retail to Kyle

Kyle residents could get new housing, hotel and retail options as a proposed mixed-use development is in the works. City Council members heard a presentation on the potential project at a March 3 meeting.

What’s happening: Capland Development proposed a planned unit development, or PUD, on the northeast side of Kyle, as well as an accompanying development agreement, according to agenda documents.

The Crossroads District development would bring 15.03 acres of commercial space for retail and service businesses and 19.27 acres of mixed-use development space, adding 535 units of multifamily housing to the area.

The design features two hotel sites and an interior greenbelt, allowing pedestrians to easily travel through the development.

The details: City Council members presented a number of ideas they’d hope to be considered by the developers or see in the project’s design, including:

  • A shared parking garage
  • Water conservation measures
  • Affordable coworking spaces
  • A recreation area or business
  • Restaurants not currently located in Kyle
