10 roadwork, construction updates in Plano

Learn more about transportation projects in the Plano area that are currently underway, including Parker Road construction and upcoming Custer Road closures, according to the city's community investment program. This list is not comprehensive.

1. Park Boulevard water rehabilitation project

  • Project: the two-phase project, stretching from Preston Road to Plano’s east city limits combined, is working to replace the waterlines running under Park Boulevard.
  • Update: Water line construction wrapped up in December, but remaining work on pavement and larger cleanup items are expected to continue through the end of January, Public Works CIP Manager Drew Zaeske said.
2. Custer Road waterline replacement
  • Project: The North Texas Municipal Water District is currently working to replace an aging pipeline along Custer Road.
  • Update: More than a third of the 9,100-foot pipeline has been installed, according to a city news release. All northbound lanes of Custer Road between Westridge Drive and Grandview Drive will be closed Jan. 5-26. Traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes of Custer Road, according to the release.

Plano residents could see construction of a 22-story apartment building and expansions at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center starting in 2026, among other projects, according to permits filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Work at the software company's headquarters includes "demising existing tenant space with minor renovations," according to the TDLR listing.

2. Park at Legacy Phase 1 Tower
The project includes a 22-story, 261-unit apartment building with a parking garage, amenities and pool, according to the TDLR listing. The tower is part of a plan to redevelop the former JCPenney headquarters in northwest Plano as a mixed-use development called "The Park at Legacy."

Tupps Brewery to host inaugural McKinney Historic Half marathon in March

A new marathon event is coming to downtown McKinney in 2026.

In a nutshell: Tupps Brewery is hosting the inaugural “McKinney Historic Half Presented by BMW” event on March 28, according to a news release from Visit McKinney. The new event “blends fitness, family fun and hometown pride,” the news release states.

The event will feature a half-marathon, 5K and kid’s 100-meter dash. Proceeds from the event will benefit Scottish Rite for Children of Frisco.

Quote of note: “Bringing a new race to McKinney is an exciting milestone for our organization,” said Jason Schuchard, Dallas White Rock Marathon president. “This community has a spirit and character that make it an exceptional host city, and we can’t wait for runners to experience it firsthand. Race day will showcase everything that makes McKinney special.”

Dallas White Rock Marathon is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting health and physical fitness through running events, according to its website. The organization was established in 1971. The organization has donated more than $4.5 million to Scottish Rite for Children since 1997.
