Plans move forward for 11-acre, grocer-anchored retail center in Allen

A development including several restaurants and a grocery store is coming soon to east Allen.

In a 6-0 vote, the Allen Planning and Zoning Commission approved a general development plan for an approximately 11-acre retail center in east Allen at an Aug. 18 meeting.

The overview: The site, which is zoned for shopping center uses, is located at the northwest corner of Angel Parkway and Main Street, near the border of Allen and the city of Lucas, city documents state. The general development plan includes five lots. The largest lot will be a 28,332-square-foot grocery and retail store, per city documents. Lots 1, 2 and 5 will be restaurants with drive-thru lanes, and Lot 3 is slated for a detention pond.

Legacy ER & Urgent Care is now a department of the Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

The gist: The clinic joined the medical system in July, staff at the location confirmed. Now operating as Methodist Legacy ER & Urgent Care, the clinic offers “patient-centered” health care services as both an urgent care and a full-service emergency room, its website states.

Q&A: Get to know 3 candidates for Texas Railroad Commissioner

Texas voters will choose from Republican Bo French, Libertarian Arthur DiBianca and Democrat Jon Rosenthal in this November's Texas Railroad Commission race.

The details: The winner of the race will be sworn in to replace incumbent Commissioner Jim Wright in January.

French beat Wright in a May Republican primary runoff, advancing to the general election. Rosenthal ran uncontested in the March Democratic primary, while DiBianca was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

Did you know? The three-member railroad commission does not have any jurisdiction over the state's railroads—that authority was transferred to the Texas Department of Transportation and the federal government by 2005, according to the commission's website. Instead, the agency regulates Texas' oil and gas industries.

Looking ahead: Early voting in dozens of local and state races runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
