Developers have received final approval from McKinney leaders for a proposed car rental facility located west of North Central Expressway.

What happened: McKinney City Council members unanimously approved a specific use permit request during a July 21 meeting. The permit enables development of an Enterprise Rent-A-Car facility on about 1.5 acres along James Pitts Drive.

The details: Current development plans include construction of a 1,800-square-foot main building for renting cars and another 1,200-square-foot building for servicing rental cars, according to a site plan. The service building will not be open or available to the general public, according to a letter of intent. 

Arcade and restaurant chain Dave & Buster’s is now open.

The roughly 40,000-square-foot venue is the largest Dave & Buster’s location in North Texas, Event Sales Manager Jeff York said.

The details: Dave & Buster’s locations offer arcade games, as well as a food and drink menu featuring chicken wings, burgers, cocktails and more, according to its website. The venue also offers screens showing sports including NFL games, UFC matches and other major sporting events, as well as spaces for events including birthday parties and corporate gatherings.

1. Pershing Drive utilities and roadway replacement
Project: Pershing Drive in Denton is receiving new water and wastewater lines, new roadway and portions of the sidewalk are being replaced. Denton voters approved the project as part of the Neighborhood 1B bond package.
Update: Crews are working to replace the driveway, curb and gutter with final paving to follow.

Texas’ power grid operator and regulator have laid out their plans to regulate data centers that connect to the state grid and ensure data center companies, not residents, pay for the industry’s growth.

What's happening: To shield Texans from the negative impacts of data center growth, the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas are:

• Prohibiting data centers from taking existing power resources off the grid
• Launching a new process to evaluate large projects looking to connect to the grid
• Creating standards that large consumers must meet before joining the grid
• Developing incentives for large consumers to reduce their energy use ahead of a grid emergency
• Requiring large companies to pay for the grid infrastructure needed to serve them
• Improving ERCOT’s process for projecting future demand
