The Georgetown Public Library will be closed from Aug. 9-16 to add radio frequency identification tags to all items. No books will be due during this time, according to a city announcement.

What residents need to know: Residents shouldn’t check out extra items ahead of the closure because the library aims to tag every item with a passive RFID tag.

Library card holders can hold onto items and return them when the library reopens, or utilize the outdoor book drop on Ninth Street.

Library resources are available online at all times. The library will reopen for standard operations Aug. 17.

Why it matters: The RFID tags are encoded with each item’s barcode and will be placed on the back cover. While the check-in and check-out process won’t change at this time, the new tagging system will allow for future process efficiency.

One more thing: Little Lemon at the Library will be open Aug. 10-15, and will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 9 and 16.

Tomlinson's Feed will open a store in Georgetown this fall, a representative with the company confirmed.

The details: The new location is currently under construction on University Avenue. Tomlinson's Feed has other Georgetown-area locations in Bar W Marketplace and Parmer Ranch Marketplace. 

Based in Austin, the pet store sells natural, healthy products throughout Central Texas. It is family-owned and -operated, with team members trained in animal nutrition, the representative said.

Ascension Seton will launch a mobile stroke unit in 2027 to serve Central Texans after receiving a $1.25 million from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. The unit will be the state’s third mobile stroke facility, joining ones in Houston and El Paso. 

Dive deeper: The stroke unit will serve as “a miniature emergency room on wheels,” said Dr. Rachel B. Pearson, a neurologist at Ascension Seton in Round Rock. The goal is to meet patients where they are, delivering life-saving stroke treatment as quickly as possible, she said. 

The features: The mobile stroke unit will have all of the features of a traditional ambulance, as well as a CT scanner for imaging, equipment for basic labs and the “clot-busting drug” designed exclusively to treat stroke patients. 

Why it matters: Having the mobile unit will eliminate some of the treatment delays by traveling to patients, treating them in the field and taking them to the hospital. The mobile unit will initially serve Williamson County and will later assess the needs of surrounding areas.
