Houston to consider illegal construction dumping ordinance

Houston City Council member Alejandra Salinas introduced an ordinance to combat illegal construction waste dumping.

A closer look: The new ordinance, called Keep Houston Clean, would require those managing construction, demolition and renovation projects to submit proof of lawful waste disposal after construction ends.

The ordinance would establish two requirements for covered projects, to be met before and after construction.

How it works: Before construction, those responsible for the project would be required to submit a waste management plan that identifies how and where construction debris will be lawfully disposed of. This would occur before they receive a permit.

After construction, project leaders would be responsible for providing proof of lawful disposal, such as landfill receipts or weight tickets, to receive a certificate of occupancy or final inspection approval.

Stay tuned: The ordinance is expected to be considered by City Council in November.

New York-based fitness studio to open in River Oaks

A New York-based fitness studio will open its second Texas location in River Oaks.

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, SotoMethod will open in the River Oaks Shopping Center.

What is it: SotoMethod combines cardio and sculpting movements designed to maximize burn and deliver an efficient full-body workout, according to the company's website.

  • The burn is sustained through 10 movements before the workout moves to the next exercise

Through transitions, as one muscle group recovers, the next one ignites, delivering maximum results in minimal time, per the website.

More details: According to TDLR, the studio will begin renovations in the 2,003-square-foot space in February 2027, with construction expected to be completed by August 2027. The estimated cost is $489,000. Details are subject to change.
