As Plano heads toward a May special election that could determine its future with Dallas Area Rapid Transit, plans for the city’s alternative public transit service are still under review.

Some context: After calling the election in November, Plano officials said they would create an alternate system in Plano using microtransit, an on-demand transit service that uses shuttles or small vehicles to provide flexible rides within specific zones, to ensure continuity of transit service for Plano residents. However, Plano City Council tabled a vote Feb. 9 to select Via Transportation as the city’s vendor for the system due to progress in negotiations with DART. Plano City Council is now set to consider approving a contract for the alternative system at its Feb. 23 meeting.

The gist: Andrew Fortune, Plano’s director of government relations and policy, spoke to Community Impact to answer some questions about the city’s plan. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Training Mate opened in November in Plano’s Legacy North, a company representative said.

The details: The fitness business, which was founded in Australia, offers 45-minute strength and cardio circuit training classes, a company news release states.

The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport board approved an increase for a contract to add the replacement of the flyover bridge into Terminal E.

During the Feb. 5 meeting, Phase 2 of the International Parkway Bridges was approved for an additional $136.1 million for the flyover replacement. It is part of the ongoing $12 billion DFW Forward capital plan, which is expanding and modernizing the airport that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024.

What's happening: Replacement of the existing left-hand exit flyover bridges into terminals A and B occurred in 2025, and work is currently ongoing for Terminal C flyover bridge replacement. Those three terminals along with Terminal E are the four original buildings and roadways that opened in 1974.

The Terminal E flyover bridge is at the end of life, and the location conflicts with the planned Terminal F ticketing and parking garage.

What else? A contract with Passur Aerospace of Orlando, Florida, was increased by $221,377 to $2.51 million and extended to March 4, 2027.
