Round Rock seeks $55M grant funding for road projects

The city of Round Rock is seeking $55 million in federal grant funding from the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization for four road projects. The total cost for the projects is about $93 million, city staff said.

Why now: Round Rock City Council approved four measures authorizing the application to fund about half of project costs using federal grant monies in a Jan. 8 meeting.

The details: The four projects focus on three roadways: an extension to Deep Wood Drive, widening North Mays Street and building segments 5 and 6 of Kenney Fort Boulevard.

Renewed interlocal agreement between city of Austin, Round Rock ISD under consideration

Refreshed guidelines for land development of properties owned by Round Rock ISD within the bounds of the city of Austin could soon require the school district to use dark sky compliant lighting, among other new requirements.

What you need to know: The 25-year interlocal agreement between the city and school district was approved at a recent meeting of the city of Austin's Environmental Commission Jan. 7, with a few stipulations.

What's next: The proposed agreement will also be reviewed by the city of Austin's Planning Commission at a future meeting.

Pegatron to start construction on Georgetown headquarters in March

Pegatron Corporation, a Taiwan-based electronics manufacturing company, plans to begin construction on its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Georgetown by March, according to Williamson County documents.

The property is located in the Blue Springs Business Park near SE Inner Loop and Blue Springs Boulevard.

The details: The 168,784-square-foot building is a shell space, and Pegatron plans to renovate the facility for its manufacturing and assembly operations, according to Georgetown documents.

The update: Williamson County commissioners approved a tax abatement agreement with Pegatron on Jan. 6, which will exempt 30% of the assessed value of the land, improvements and tangible personal property for 10 years.

The benefits are contingent on performance metrics, including starting construction by March 31. 

In case you missed it: The city of Georgetown approved an economic incentive agreement and tax abatement agreement for Pegatron on Dec. 9.

About the company: Pegatron works on design and manufacturing for a wide range of electronics. The company is also involved with the hardware needed for data centers.
