The Texas A&M University Board of Regents adopted a five-year plan, with student success as a key goal, after a year-long approval process during its third-quarter 2026 meeting on Sept. 3.

What you need to know: According to a news release, the 2026-2031 A&M System Strategic Plan has four drivers for the university, with student success listed as the highest objective.

Zooming in: The plan is officially measured by student success, research and innovation, community advancement and mission enablement.

The plan’s effectiveness will also be measured by 36 indicators of performance, including in part:

• Graduation rate

• Commercialization with brand initiatives, such as the recent collaboration between the university and Buc-ee’s

• Savings produced through shared services

The takeaway: Texas A&M University Chancellor Glenn Hegar said with the high growth of the state of Texas and an ever-evolving workforce, the university needs to “pull together” to create the next generation's workforce.

Asian-inspired and teriyaki-infused restaurant Teriyaki Madness has announced an opening date for its College Station location.

What Teriyaki Madness offers: The Seattle-based restaurant chain serves bowls inspired by Asian cuisine with chicken, steak, tofu and fresh vegetables. Customers can also order sides such as egg rolls and crab rangoon.

Additionally, the restaurant offers catering services and vegetarian options.

What's happening: Roughly 100 Texans testified about the high school curriculum rewrite at an Aug. 31 meeting, with the debate revolving around how students would learn about the two largest world religions, Christianity and Islam.

Dozens of Muslim Texans asked that students learn about the religion’s core principles and how Muslims have contributed to advancements in math, science and medicine throughout history.

Some testifiers said the social studies curriculum should highlight the role of Christianity in the founding of Texas and the U.S., praising the board for prioritizing “American exceptionalism” and topics that they said would teach students to love the country.

The context: The discussion comes as the Republican-led board nears the finish line on its new K-12 social studies curriculum standards.

If approved, the new requirements will be rolled out to public school classrooms in the 2030-31 school year.
