Harris County Pets expands low-cost spay, neuter services in February

To help reduce pet overpopulation while supporting responsible pet ownership, Harris County Pets is expanding low-cost spay and neuter services with appointments available every Tuesday and Thursday throughout February.

What you need to know: Starting Feb. 3, Harris County Pets—the open-admission animal shelter for unincorporated Harris County—is offering spay and neuter surgeries for $40 per pet performed by licensed veterinarians, per a Feb. 2 news release. 

In observance of Spay and Neuter Awareness Month and Responsible Pet Owners Month, HCP will serve up to 20 dogs and cats each date.

Quote of note: “At Harris County Pets, prevention is one of the most powerful tools we have to save lives,” said Corey Steele, director of HCP and the Veterinary Public Health Division at Harris County Public Health.

The details: Per the release, demand for these services are high, and appointments are required and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Grand Parkway overpass at Boudreaux Road, Gleannloch Forest Drive closing Feb. 6-9 for bridge demolition

The Texas Department of Transportation will be closing down the Grand Parkway underpass at Boudreaux Road and Gleannloch Forest Drive from Feb. 6-9, according to a Feb. 4 news release.

The details: Two alternate routes have been provided for drivers:

  • Northbound Gleannloch Forest Drive: Turn right onto the eastbound Grand Parkway frontage road, and then turn left onto the turnaround at the Champions Forest Drive. Then take the westbound Grand Parkway frontage back to Gleannloch Forest Drive, and then turn right onto Boudreaux Road.
  • Eastbound Boudreaux to southbound Gleannloch Forest Drive: Prior to the Grand Parkway, turn left onto northbound Hufsmith-Kohrville Road, then turn right onto eastbound Mahaffey Road. After that, make a right onto southbound FM 2920, and then turn right onto the westbound Grand Parkway frontage road. Then make a left onto southbound Champions Forest Drive, turn right onto westbound Northpointe Boulevard, and then turn left onto southbound Gleannloch Forest Road.
