La La Land Kind Cafe to replace Land of a Thousand Hills in Cypress

Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee & Bakery, located at the Boardwalk at Towne Lake, will close its doors Nov. 30 after nearly 10 years serving the community, owner Melinda Bodukoglu said. The business is set to be replaced by coffee chain La La Land Kind Cafe, according to an Oct. 27 filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

In a nutshell:  La La Land Kind Cafe is expected to move into the tenant space at 9935 Barker Cypress Road, Ste. 130, Cypress by February 2026, according to the TDLR filing.

Before you go: Bodukoglu told Community Impact she was in the process of transferring the store to a new owner when the shop's landlord "decided to go in a different direction." She said she and her husband will continue to sell scratch-made pastries in partnership with several coffee shops around Greater Houston.

"While our hearts are heavy, we are incredibly grateful for all the love and support this community has shown us over the years," Bodukoglu said.

Cy-Fair ISD board adopts lowest property tax rate in nearly 40 years

The Cy-Fair ISD board of trustees approved the district’s 2025 property tax rate—the lowest in 39 years—during an Oct. 28 special-called meeting.

The breakdown: According to a presentation from district staff, the 2025 tax rate of $1.0669 per $100 home valuation is comprised of:

  • $0.6669 per $100 valuation for maintenance and operations, which funds day-to-day operations in CFISD
  • $0.40 per $100 valuation for interest and sinking, which funds the district’s debt service

The tax rate will support the district’s $1.2 billion budget for fiscal year 2025-26 approved in June, CFISD Chief Financial Officer Karen Smith said at the meeting. The 2025 tax rate marks a 2-cent decrease from last year’s rate, Smith said.

Another detail: The district also offers a local optional homestead exemption of 20% of appraised home value. When paired with the state’s current $100,000 exemption, a CFISD taxpayer with a home valued at $350,000—the district’s average—would see a $747 decrease in property taxes, according to the presentation.
