Georgetown health care leaders discuss expanding care options and accessibility of services

Leaders at St. David's and clinics in Georgetown are aiming to make health care more accessible to residents.

Health care executives gathered with city and state officials and community members to discuss Georgetown's health care climate at a luncheon hosted by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 19.

The overview: St. David’s Georgetown Hospital is aiming to allow more Georgetown residents to receive health care services closer to home, St. David's Georgetown CEO Kyle Landry said.

Last year, the hospital opened a new cardiac catheterization lab and outpatient cardiovascular imaging center. The lab now allows Georgetown residents to receive cardiac catheterization without leaving the city. By next year, the hospital hopes to open an ST-Elevation Myocardian Infarction, or STEMI, center to treat patients actively experiencing heart attack symptoms, Landry said.

“We are eyeing additional opportunities in which we can expand the campus [and] expand services,” Landry said.

Also of note: New technology and artificial intelligence has increased the speed at which St. David's providers can assess and treat patients, officials said.

Google commits $40B to 3 data new centers, infrastructure in Texas through 2027

Google is targeting Texas for future investments in data and artificial infrastructure, with $40 billion expected to be spent on adding three new data centers.

Federal, state and local leaders announced the new centers to be constructed in Armstrong and Haskell counties at a Nov. 14 event at the first Texas Google Data Center in Midlothian, near the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The gist: One new data center will be constructed in Armstrong County near Amarillo, and two new data centers will be constructed in Haskell County near Abilene. One center in Haskell County will also use a new solar and battery energy storage plant.

“They say that everything is bigger in Texas—and that certainly applies to the golden opportunity with AI,” Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said.

Also of note: The driverless car company Waymo is expanding to North Texas in 2026, Pichai said.
