The Hwy. 29 bridge over I-35 in Georgetown will be closed from 9 p.m. Oct. 1 until 5 a.m. Oct. 3 to repair damaged beams from a crash in early September.

What you need to know: While the bridge is closed, eastbound traffic will detour to the southbound I-35 frontage road, and westbound traffic will detour to the northbound I-35 frontage road.

Georgetown bowling alley adopts Lucky Strike branding

The bowling alley off North Austin Avenue along I-35 in Georgetown began operating under the Lucky Strike name in late August.

The history: Previously called Mel's Lone Star Lanes, the business was purchased by the Bowlero Corp umbrella group three years ago, staff said. The location has been operating under the Bowlero name, which rebranded to Lucky Strike Entertainment in December.

The Georgetown alley's first day as Lucky Strike was Aug. 21, and the company's logo and signage was put up that same week. Additionally, the name change came with a few interior updates.

What you need to know: Staff said the change will not impact customers who may have coupons or outstanding offers with old branding.

Lucky Strike Georgetown is hosting a Lucky Launch Party on Oct. 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Attendees can RSVP and receive a free game of bowling, a $10 arcade gift card and complementary snacks.

Williamson County burn ban in effect until December

Williamson County will be under a burn ban for up to 90 days due to drought conditions, following commissioner approval Sept. 30.

The details: While the burn ban is in effect, residents may not burn combustible materials, including leaves, grass, brush and trees, outside of an enclosure that contains all flames and sparks. Violations are punishable with a fine of up to $500.

The order will be in effect for 90 days unless lifted earlier by the commissioners or County Judge Steve Snell if drought conditions improve.

The cause: Drought conditions, especially on the east side of the county, have contributed to high and very high fire danger risk this week, Williamson County Fire Marshal Mike Lugo said at the meeting.

“We’re trying to stay ahead of the fire risk [and] fire danger,” Lugo said.
