EdgeConneX Cedar Creek data center filings reach $5.8B

Two new state filings add $1.2 billion in estimated construction costs to EdgeConneX’s second Cedar Creek data center campus, bringing six planned buildings associated with the campus to a combined $4 billion.

The update: The two new buildings at 6402 FM 535 would each span 591,400 square feet and carry an estimated construction cost of $600 million. Construction is scheduled to begin Nov. 2.

What else? Four previously filed plans for buildings at 6682 FM 535 are also part of Campus No. 2. All six filings list Burr Computer Environment Inc. as owner and do not identify a tenant, while the Texas Comptroller’s data center registry identifies EdgeConneX entities as the campus owner and operator.

The big picture: The six buildings at 6682 and 6402 FM 535 make up EdgeConneX’s Campus No. 2—one of three data center campuses the company has planned in Cedar Creek.

Across EdgeConneX’s three planned Cedar Creek campuses, nine state filings total about 5.83 million square feet and $5.84 billion in estimated construction costs.

Bastrop gift shop In The Sticks closing after nearly 3 years

Downtown Bastrop gift shop In The Sticks is nearing the end of its nearly three-year run on Main Street.

In a nutshell: Business owner Keith Chamberlain announced the upcoming closure on social media.

"I tried for three years to make it here, and it was just lack of support from Bastrop," he said.

What they offer: As previously reported, Chamberlain and partner Alan Barnette opened In The Sticks on Nov. 10, 2023, and began selling a range of items from artwork to jewelry, candles, planters, books and more.

What's next? Chamberlain told Community Impact he hopes to stay open through the end of the year, and is looking to find a subtenant for the remaining 18 months of the lease.

In the meantime, he said customers can support the business by purchasing merchandise at up to 50% off, as well as store fixtures.

"Please come support us in our final days," the owners said.

  • Closing in late 2026

  • 928 Main St., Bastrop

Austin transportation agencies launch real-time construction app

Bastrop drivers headed to Austin will now have access to information on local transportation projects that could impact commutes through a mobile app.

Austin city leaders celebrated the official launch of CTXGO on Oct. 1, a new tool from the Construction Partnership Program.

Some context: Participating CPP agencies include the city of Austin, Austin Transit Partnership, CapMetro, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Texas Department of Transportation.

How it works: CTXGO operates as both a free mobile app and website. Users can select from a variety of map layers to see real-time roadway information, including traffic congestion, incidents such as stalled or abandoned vehicles, and what electronic roadway message signs are currently displaying such as estimated travel times. The work zone map displays lane closures with expected start and end dates and times.

The local impact: Austin Mobility officials said more than $20 billion in transportation and infrastructure projects across multiple agencies are planned in Central Texas over the next several years.
