The city of New Braunfels has acquired the historic Walnut 6 movie sign.

The sign is being relocated to the site of the Southeast Library, which will be known as the city's Walnut Branch, Deputy City Manager Jordan Matney said July 17 during the City Council’s summer workshop.

"We think it's a great opportunity to get something on the other side of I-35 that will help us message what's going on in our community," Matney said.

Check this out: The Walnut 6 sign was part of one of the only movie theaters in the community for 30 years. When the movie theater was initially demolished in 2004, the sign remained because a sign that size could no longer be placed anywhere in New Braunfels. The sign was also left up in case a future developer would want to reuse the sign. In 2025, redevelopment began, and those developers were not interested in the sign, Matney said.

Matney said they are in the process of finalizing the project’s design and getting ready to move into permitting.

A new space for local businesses, parents and content creators is opening in New Braunfels.

What you need to know: The Clubhouse, owned by Bri-Anna Johnson and Megan McIntosh-Cameron, will be opening at 118 Trade Center Dr. in early August. Johnson said they wanted a space where the community could gather. For example, if an instructor wants to teach a class but does not have the space to do it, now they do, she said.

"They have a chance to actually grow their business," Johnson told Community Impact.

Johnson said they are also hoping to host events for a variety of vendors.

A locally-owned coffee and pastry shop provides customers in San Marcos with hand-crafted drinks made from scratch.

The gist: Sucre Cafe and Go is a new coffee spot offering handcrafted drinks, homemade sauces and pastries. The store is owned and operated by Vanessa Martinez and is the sister company of Di Sucre by V, a local cake shop.

“I have a lot of passion for the kitchen,” Martinez. “That's where I develop all of my recipes, also for my coffees. Everything came from my grandma and my mom, so they teach me and guide me through the whole process.”

Vanessa started her cake business in 2016 and opened Di Sucre by V almost five years ago, she said.

What they offer: Sucre Cafe and Go offers a variety of coffee and pastry options for customers, including those that are vegan or have dietary restrictions, Martinez said.
