Katy and Lamar Consolidated ISDs have several ongoing development projects expected to wrap up by 2028. The projects include several schools as well as a career and technology center. 

Alma Lemon Slawinski Elementary School: The new LCISD elementary school is slated to open in Fulshear this fall after construction wraps up this summer. Construction, which began in spring 2025, is 70% complete.

Elementary school #49: The new KISD elementary school is slated to open in the northwest quadrant of the district in August 2027. Construction has not yet begun.

Career and Technology Center: Lamar CISD’s CTE center is slated to open in Rosenberg this fall after construction wraps up this summer. Construction, which began in summer 2024, is 75% complete.

Bilingual dental studio now open in Fulshear

GLĀZ Dental Studio, a dentist office where employees speak both English and Spanish, is now open for business in Fulshear

Founded by Chilean dentist Dr. George Galaz and his wife Arianna, GLĀZ had its official grand opening Jan. 2 after starting operations in December.

What they offer: GLĀZ offers comprehensive exams, 3D anatomical bite scans, cleanings, extractions, digital imaging and cosmetics as well as restorative work, Arianna Galaz said. For anything last minute, the business also offers emergency dental care.

Also of note: Currently, GLĀZ Dental Studio is only open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and one Saturday a month, but will soon expand its hours to Tuesday and Thursday.

Applications for new Texas education savings accounts close Tuesday, March 17

Families have until 11:59 p.m. March 17 to apply for the first year of Texas’ education savings account program, according to the state comptroller’s office.

The big picture: Under the $1 billion program, participating students will receive state funds for private education or homeschooling during the 2026-27 school year. It is unlikely that all applicants will be accepted, as application data shows more students have applied than the program can fund.

The program offers $2,000 to homeschooled students; $10,474 for private school tuition and related expenses; and up to $30,000 for students with disabilities. With demand set to exceed available funding, applications will be prioritized based on need and household income.

How we got here: State lawmakers created the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program in 2025, with proponents saying it will expand options for families who don't want to send their children to public schools. Critics of the program have said it will unfairly benefit students already in private schools and divert funding from public schools.
